Munch with Hurstbridge acting bunch

FICTION and food provide the perfect fit for a fun-filled afternoon.
And Diamond Valley children will this weekend be able to experience the joys of theatrical storytelling combined with food and discussion, at an adapted version of the popular Beyond Cuisine series.
Producer and actor Suzanne Shubart, who developed the series at Hurstbridge's Wattle Cafe last year, has been inundated with requests to expand the show into a children's format.
"We thought it'd be great to do a children's show, because the actors really bring the characters to life and the kids would really love it," Shubart said.
"It's a real theatrical sort of experience, because it's not just based on the words on the page, it's the way the actors breathe life into the story."
Shubart said an appealing aspect of Beyond Cuisine was the interaction between actors and audience members over a meal after the show.
Stories at the children's show will be read by former Blue Heelers actor and Hurstbridge local Julie Nhill, Bruce Hughes, from The Secret Life of Us and MDA, and Shubart.
"The actors choose the stories because it's important they pick something they are crazy about," Shubart said.
"We are looking at authors Roald Dahl and Paul Jennings."
The one-hour show, for children aged seven to 11, includes snacks and drinks and starts at 4pm this Saturday, May 17.
