TWO local sports clubs have been awarded $1000 to ensure they can keep kicking on.

The Caulfield United Cobras Soccer Club and the Glen Eira Junior Soccer Club each took home a Rebel Sport voucher as the junior and senior winners for the Caulfield/Port Phillip Leader Grassroots Gold competition.

Chris Balkos from the Cobras said the voucher would be used to replace outdated equipment.

"The club prides itself in providing both a sporting and social atmosphere for both a diverse range of ages and nationalities," Mr Balkos said.

Glen Eira Mayor Steven Tang is the club's number-one ticket holder.

Glen Eira Junior Soccer Club said they would use the vouchers to buy equipment to help them provide a program for intellectually disabled players.

Our Grassroots Gold initiative has given a major boost to dozens in dire need of assistance.

The funding partnership involving RACV Show Your Card & Save, Rebel Sport and Leader Newspapers will inject more than $100,000 of sports equipment into needy clubs across Melbourne.

Leader marketing communications manager Sarah Macpherson said all of the clubs that entered were deserving.
